The Company

Our client is a leading distributor of products for the construction industry, delivering a comprehensive range of products to trade customers, contractors, merchants, and construction sites across London and the South East. They are seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager to lead their transport and warehouse operations from their West London branch.

The Role

As Operations Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the efficient running of warehouse and transport functions, ensuring excellent customer service, operational efficiency, and compliance with all relevant regulations.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong organisational skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage people, processes, and performance in a fast-paced distribution environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the warehouse and transport teams to achieve operational targets.
Oversee daily distribution activities, route planning, vehicle utilisation, and delivery performance.
Ensure stock accuracy, inventory control, and efficient warehouse operations.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, service levels, and cost efficiency.
Monitor KPIs and produce regular operational performance reports.
Ensure compliance with health & safety, transport legislation, and company procedures.
Manage fleet maintenance schedules and transport compliance requirements.
Work closely with sales, purchasing, and customer service teams to ensure customer expectations are met.
Recruit, train, motivate, and develop operational staff.
Manage operational budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

Previous experience managing warehouse and transport operations within a distribution, logistics, builders merchant, or construction supplies environment.
Strong leadership and people management skills.
Proven experience improving operational performance and driving efficiencies.
Good understanding of transport legislation, fleet management, and health & safety requirements.
Experience managing warehouse inventory and stock control processes.
Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
CPC qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
